Dennis is a graduate of the University of Iowa with a B.A. degree in Finance. He joined Cook Appraisal in 1998 and received his general certification from the State of Iowa in August 2002. He later earned the MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute in 2012 and the AI-GRS designation in 2018. Over the years, Dennis has served in various roles with the Iowa Chapter of the Appraisal Institute and is currently serving a 3-year term on the board of directors. He has served as an expert witness numerous times in district court, PAAB (Property Assessment Appeals Board) and compensation commissions. Dennis became a partner in 2003 and now is the sole owner of Cook Appraisal. Dennis has coached youth sports for many years and has been actively involved with various boards mostly surrounding youth and education.
Ryan received his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Iowa in 2013. He began as an associate appraiser at Cook Appraisal in 2013 and is a Practicing Affiliate with the Appraisal Institute. He received his general certification from the State of Iowa in 2017 and is working towards the MAI designation. Ryan is also a volunteer teacher with Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa.
Hal received his Associate of Arts Degree from Kirkwood Community College in 1987 and a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Iowa in 1990. Hal began his appraisal career in April 1990. In January 1992 he became a licensed real estate appraiser in Iowa and subsequently a Certified General Real Property Appraiser in December 1994. He has performed a wide variety of appraisal assignments in his 30+ history and is a practicing affiliate of the Appraisal Institute. He recently joined our firm in April 2021. He is very active in the Solon community with Beef Days, Boy Scouts and school events with his children. Hal is a member of the Old Capital Kiwanis Club and a life member of Kiwanis International. Hal was a charter member of the Circle K Club at the University of Iowa and continues to serve as an advisor to the student board.
Jeremy received his Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management from Ohio University in 2015. He later received his Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) from Missouri State in 2019. He began as an Associate Appraiser at Cook Appraisal in 2020 and is a Practicing Affiliate of the Appraisal Institute. He intends to complete his General Certification from the State of Iowa by 2024.
Upon receiving a Bachelor’s degree in insurance and management information systems from Drake University, Cabel went to work for a regional insurance carrier as a multi-line (e.g., property, casualty and workers’ compensation) insurance adjuster, covering the territory around Iowa City, Fairfield, Burlington, and Washington. He started with the firm in November of 2021 after having spent the previous 10 years as the investment property manager for a local property management company. Cabel received his Associate General Appraiser certificate in February of 2022. He is a member of the Iowa City Optimist Club and Scouting BSA’s Troop 212 “The Thoughtful Gentlemen” (and is an Eagle Scout himself).
Casey is the founding member of Cook Appraisal (formerly known as Eastern Iowa Commercial Real Estate Appraisers) Casey had been in the real estate business since 1977 and has been a commercial appraiser since 1983. He has a B.A. in economics from Oberlin College, an M.A. from the University of Iowa in Urban and Regional Planning, and holds the MAI designation from The Appraisal Institute. He did expert testimony throughout central and eastern Iowa. Casey is the past president of the Iowa Chapter of the Appraisal institute. He also served on the Iowa City Planning and Zoning Commission and co-founded the Friends of the Iowa River Scenic Trail (FIRST).
